The faith-led community of L’Arche Ipswich opened in 2006. Our houses are much like any family home. People with learning disabilities live here, along with live-in assistants. They live and work together, sharing day-to-day tasks such as cooking, cleaning and laundry. A busy calendar includes shared meals, family days, weekly house meetings, birthday celebrations and prayer time. As well as being rewarding and fulfilling, assistants and volunteers often say they grow in confidence at L’Arche Ipswich, realise things they never knew about themselves and make great memories and friends.
We are looking for volunteers to help set up and run a monthly games night. We are hoping to get the churches involved with this as well as perhaps students or anyone else interested. Involving as many different people and places as possible, the idea would be to build more of a rapport between the churches and L’Arche Ipswich- and have fun in the process!
We are also looking for new live-in and live-out assistants to come and join the community for a minimum of a year. Live-ins are provided boarding, food and pocket money and live-outs would get a competitive salary.
Previous experience of charity work or care work is not essential, but an interest in L’Arche and the community is important.
