Family First is a Christian charity which enables families – regardless of race, religion or belief, age, sexual orientation or marital status – to develop their capacity in supporting themselves and find the solutions to the challenges that impact their lives. It is in desperate need of more volunteers and has families waiting for support.
The charity’s Family Co-ordinators meet with a family, listen to what they are struggling with and ask what they would like family life to look like. This helps the family to identify the goals they want to work towards.
The Family Co-ordinator then matches a volunteer who will visit weekly to listen and support. These volunteers encourage the family to make small, achievable changes each week. Progress is reviewed with the volunteer and co-ordinator regularly.
Family First also runs Parentalk courses which offer a 6 week programme where parents can receive support and advice around parenting from a group facilitator as well as the other parents in the room. These are informal and friendly sessions which are based around dvd clips and groups discussion with no writing or homework required!
