On Advent Sunday December 2004, a new Nativity Sculpture was installed In Bury St Edmunds as a way of reminding people of the true reason for Christmas Celebrations.
It was blessed by James Atwell the then Dean of St Edmundsbury, there was music by The Salvation Army band and a service led by Churches Together in Bury St Edmunds and District.
When the annual Christmas Fair started, the annual Churches Together service moved to the stage and became the focus for the close of the Christmas Fair. However, due to Covid-19, the Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fair is cancelled this year.
The hope is to return to having a gathering at the Nativity Tableau for 2020 so that there is a visible Christian presence and celebration outside in the town, as there has always been. There is only one problem. Unfortunately, The Nativity Tableau was not in a good enough condition to be erected last year. It is currently awaiting restoration at an estimated cost of £1500.
An appeal is therefore being launched to restore the Nativity Tableau and the organisers are looking for donations, no matter how small, so that the work can go ahead and the Tableau can again take pride of place in the town.
