Carols by Starlight

The popular annual church services, Carols by Candlelight and the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols, have taken a bit of a knock this year.  For Suffolk though it’s business as usual with an innovative evening of Carols by Starlight.  Graeme Duncan reports:

The Christmas carol service, that ever popular annual family event in the church calendar which sets the scene and reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas, has taken a real knock this year for many churches. Whilst some churches are hosting online carol services, and others are bravely ploughing ahead with scaled back, Covid-secure versions of events, many churches in Suffolk still remain closed.

However all is far from lost. Mark Jacklin, managing director of TM Services, a Suffolk company providing event management and production services nationwide, has come up with the idea for an outdoor carol service, Carols By Starlight.

The aim of the event is to bring all churches in Suffolk together for a united carol service at this important time in the church calendar. The evening will be based around the familiar Nine Lessons and Carols, with readings and festive contributions given by various churches. A live band, brought together from different churches, will lead the carols. Carols By Starlight is a ticket only event but is totally free to attend and is suitable for both Christians and non-Christians, as well as both adults and children. Representatives from local charities FIND and EACH will be present with donation buckets for those who would like to make a donation to these charities.

When is Carols by Starlight? The event is taking place at Trinity Park, Felixstowe Road, Ipswich, IP3 8UH on Friday 18th December. Gates open at 18.00hrs. The carol service will start at 19.00hrs and will last approximately one hour.

How do I book tickets? There are two different ticket types:

Car Ticket – this ticket allows people to turn up in their own cars, wind their windows down and join in with the singing from the shelter of their car, in line with current government guidelines.

Table Ticket – this ticket will allow people to sit close to the stage at the picnic tables provided, whilst maintaining social distancing. The minimum table ticket registration is for 4 tickets with a maximum of 6.  This option is also available for those without a car.

How do I sign up? Sign up for either ticket at Eventbrite:
