In 2025, Disability Awareness Sunday explores the theme: ‘Made in God’s image’. Join hundreds of churches across the UK – and the world – to explore and celebrate disability inclusion.
This year, Disability Awareness Sunday is 28 September 2025. But any Sunday can be Disability Awareness Sunday!
The most important thing about Disability Awareness Sunday is that Christians reach out and include disabled people fully in community life. Catch the vision today! Get free resources to help celebrate – register below.
Why it matters
Too often, in our culture – and sadly sometimes in our churches – we measure people against worldly ideas of “perfection”. This can lead to attitudes that exclude. Jesus called us to welcome disabled people; then the church can be transformed by their presence, perspective, and ministry.
In a survey, 66% of churches needed ideas for how to include disabled people in church activities (ComRes). Through the Roof can help! – Just click on the link below to download Disability Awareness Sunday (DAS) service resources, free.
Free service resource by Emily Owen
Christian author Emily Owen wrote this year’s DAS church resource on the theme ‘Made in God’s Image’ (Genesis 1), also using 1 Samuel 16:7, ‘God looks at the heart’. Emily shares her own lived experience of disability in the DAS video with the resource. Emily lost her hearing overnight aged 21 and has had numerous surgeries. Emily knows what it is to be broken, and she knows what it is to meet God there. But in our brokenness, we remain ‘in God’s image’, as the imprint of God’s nature in us all – including disabled and non-disabled people alike.
Join UK churches to hold a Disability Awareness Sunday service or event, celebrating disabled people in our communities as ‘made in God’s image’. Invite disabled people to speak, include a prayer, and/or play Emily’s video story of her lived experience of disability, by accessing the free resources below.
