    The Salvation Army in Beccles and the Rotary Club of Bungay have expressed a massive thank you to everyone who supported their recent collection for Ukraine.

    After several months of collecting donations, everything was gathered together on Saturday 19 September, ready for onward transportation to people living amid the continuing war in Ukraine.
    Organisers have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community.

    Donations included:
    * 18 boxes of brand-new toys
    * Hundreds of toiletries
    * Large quantities of pain relief, medication and medical supplies
    * Mobility aids, including Zimmer frames, crutches and knee braces
    * Boxes of blankets and towels
    * Many other essential supplies

    The collection has been a joint effort between Beccles Salvation Army and the Rotary Club of Bungay, bringing together their shared commitment to serving others and helping people in desperate need.
    Harry Woods, Church Leader at Beccles Salvation Army and President of the Rotary Club of Bungay, said:
    “When we see the devastation and the continuing war in Ukraine, it is easy to feel helpless and ask ourselves, ‘What can we do other than pray?’

    “Prayer remains incredibly important, but it is also wonderful to be able to roll up our sleeves and take practical action. We have been truly overwhelmed by the generosity of so many people. Every toy, blanket, toiletry and mobility aid has been donated with compassion and will go to someone who desperately needs it.

    “Both The Salvation Army and Rotary share a strong commitment to serving others. Rotary’s motto is ‘Service Above Self’, and this collection has been a powerful example of our community putting that into action.”
    Mr Dick Cundy, International Chair of the Rotary Club of Bungay, added:

    “As the International Chairman of Bungay Rotary, I would like to add a few words to those of our President Harry. Every organisation and all of those individuals who I approached, have responded with great generosity, in the way that Bungay people always do, so please accept my grateful thanks for all that you have provided, particularly those toiletries and medical items which we take for granted, but which are either not available or viewed as luxuries in Ukraine.”   Dick Cundy.

    Beccles Salvation Army and the Rotary Club of Bungay would like to thank every individual, family, organisation and business that donated supplies or helped with the collection.
    Harry added:
    “Together, our community has shown that although we may be many miles away from Ukraine, we have not forgotten those who continue to suffer. Every donation sends a message of practical help, compassion and hope.”
